July ’17 stitch of the month: Portholes

YOU WILL NEED:

One pair recommended needle size for the yarn you are using.

ABBREVIATIONS:

k = knit; p = purl; rep = repeat; RSF = right side facing; R(W)SR = right(wrong) side row; SKPO = slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over; sl = slip; sts = stitch(es); tog = together; yon = yarn over needle.

Multiple of 8sts + 6sts:

NOTE: When slipping the sts on the WSR’s make sure to carry the yarn to the back of the work, returning the yarn before working the next st.  When slipping the sts on the RSR’s make sure to carry the yarn to the front of the work, returning the yarn before working the next st.

1st row: RSF, p.

2nd row: P2, (sl2, p6) to last 4sts, sl2, p2.

3rd row: K2, *sl2, k1, k2tog, (yon) twice, SKPO, k1, rep from * to last 4sts, sl2, k2.

4th row: P2, (sl2, p3, k1 in back loop of yon, p2) to last 4sts, sl2, p2.

5th row: K2, (sl2, p6) to last 4sts, sl2, p2.

6th row: K.

7th row: P.

8th row: P6, (sl2, p6) to end.

9th row: K3, yon, *SKPO, k1, sl2, k1, k2tog, (yon) twice, rep from * to last 11sts, SKPO, k1, sl2, k1, k2tog, yon, k3.

10th row: P6, (sl2, p3, k1 in back loop of yon, p2) to last 8sts, sl2, p6.

11th row: K6, (sl2, k6) to end.

12th row: K.

Rep these 12 rows.
